Depression is far more than just being sad or in a funk. Because of the stigma associated with having a mental illness, many people do not seek help for their depression. Yet, with proper treatment, more than 80 percent of people experiencing depression do recover. Participants will have the opportunity to attend a workshop on Friday, Oct. 6, from 8:30-10 a.m. to learn about the signs and symptoms of depression and the physical, emotional and cognitive impact of depression on their quality of life. You also will learn about depression screening tools, treatment options and resources available for you or your loved ones through IMPACT Solutions, Kent State University’s Employee Assistance Program. And, with fall just around the corner, this session also will cover the signs of seasonal affective disorder (SAD), sometimes known as the “winter blues” – often brought on by shorter, colder days, lack of sunshine and holiday stress. This presentation will include what you can do about it, lifestyle adjustments that can be made that all play a role in the development, as well as treatments.
The presenter for this important topic and workshop will be Lisa Kirby, MFT, PC. Kirby is a licensed professional counselor and a marriage and family therapist. She also is an account manager for IMPACT Solutions, one of Kent State’s wellness partners.
Registration is required for this workshop that is open to all full- and part-time Kent State employees. To register, please use the following links based on your preference for participation:
