Fall 2024: CPPH Special Edition

Message from the Dean

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to present you with the first special edition of the Pulse on Public Health eNewsletter. In this issue, we highlight the outstanding efforts of the Center for Public Policy and Health (CPPH), part of the College of Public Health. Since its establishment at Kent State University in the 1970s, the Center has served as an invaluable resource to public, non-profit, and private sector organizations in Ohio and around the country by conducting research and developing public policies to improve the health of our communities.

From environment and water policy to mental health and substance use, public health management, and program evaluation, the Center has a longstanding tradition of fostering well-being through education, prevention, and access to vital resources. Under the leadership of former director John Hoornbeek, Ph.D., and current director Deric Kenne, Ph.D., the CPPH has been empowering students, individuals, and families while focusing on equity and inclusivity and promoting sustainable practices.

To all CPPH faculty, staff, and students: as the Dean of the College of Public Health, I could not be prouder of your dedication to advancing public health. Your passion ignites a shared vision of a healthier future, reminding us of all of the power of collaboration and the potential for transformative change.

Yours in good health,

Sonia Alemagno

Dean, College of Public Health
