Membership Dates and Facility Closures

Recreation and Wellness Services may close the SRWC for maintenance and other purposes for a maximum of 14 days throughout the year.  Additionally, the SRWC may close or reduce hours during university breaks and university observed holidays as well as during inclement weather. Information about our facility hours will be posted on our website, our social media accounts and inside the facility.  The cost of the annual and semester memberships has these dates factored into the price. Recreation and Wellness Services will not reimburse membership or parking fees due to closures for the above reasons.

The SRWC closes or has reduced hours for the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day,
  • Easter
  • Juneteenth
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

The SRWC adjusts hours of operation during the following:

  • Spring Break
  • Summer Break
  • Winter Break

Inclement Weather and Other University Closures

During periods of severe inclement weather, public emergency, or other crisis, the president or a designated officer may announce, through the Kent State University electronic alert system and through the local news media, that some or all of the university’s offices and facilities are closed for part or all of a day. Recreation and Wellness Services will follow the university policy and modify SRWC building hours as needed.

Parking Permits: Parking permits must be surrendered at the time of the Freeze. Parking permits cannot be extended.

Locker Charges : Monthly auto-debit and payroll deduction locker charges are required to be paid during any membership freeze period if you wish to retain your locker.  If you do not want to pay your monthly charge during your freeze period, your locker rental will be canceled.

Monthly Auto-Debit Pending/Temporary Charge: During your freeze period for auto-debit memberships, a temporary/pending charge will be placed on your credit card that will be removed prior to our credit card billing settlement due to the way our software processes credit card payments.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Membership Cancelations
  • Paid-in-full memberships are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Auto-debit and payroll deduction memberships, which continue indefinitely, may be cancelled after one year with no penalties. Please complete the Membership Change Request Form (link below) and provide at least 30 days notice.
  • When purchasing an auto-debit or payroll deduction membership, you are committing to a one-year contract. This contract entitles you to a discounted membership rate every month throughout the year. By breaking your contract, you are also waiving your right to the discounted rate. Penalties apply when an auto-debit or payroll deduction membership is cancelled before one year of membership. If you are considering cancelling your auto-debit or payroll deduction membership before the minimum one-year agreement, please use the following formula to evaluate the actual cost of your membership:
    • Monthly rate of your category (not the auto-debit or payroll deduction rate) x Number of active months + Monthly parking pass rate x Number of active months + $20 Processing fee - Amount you have already paid this year = Remaining balance (compare this to the cost of remaining active through the contract date)
