The Division of Information Services (IS) has finalized an agreement with Adobe Systems Inc. that will save Kent State University students in excess of one million dollars per year.
Kent State students are now able to purchase Adobe Creative Cloud subscriptions for only $75 per year. The current student plan for the same package ranges from $240 to $360 per year.
"IS could not be more excited to offer this incredible savings to our students!," says Jay Frye, Director of Service Management.
Likewise, faculty and staff members will be able to purchase the software subscription for their personal computers for the same discounted rate.
Additionally, there is a significant savings to the University. Adobe Creative Cloud for university-owned computers – faculty, staff, and lab – now cost $100 per subscription per year. This is half the cost that departments are currently paying per subscription.
What is Adobe Creative Cloud?
Adobe is more than Acrobat. Adobe is the industry leader for print and interactive design applications, and a standard for audio and video editing software. The Creative Cloud suite contains the entire collection of Adobe desktop and mobile apps, including:
-
Design essentials: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat
-
Audio/video production apps: Premiere, After Effects, and Audition
-
Newcomers like, Adobe XD for rapid prototyping and Spark for visual storytelling
There are over 20 titles in all. Visit www.adobe.com/creativecloud.html to learn more.
Support
In preparation for the influx of new users to some of these applications, IS will be offering additional workshops on Adobe applications. Throughout the spring semester, in-depth InDesign and Photoshop workshops will be offered weekly. On Feb. 2 and April 6 all workshops on those days will feature an Adobe application dubbed "Adobe Days." In addition, other Adobe workshops will be offered on various days and times throughout the semester. Please visit training.kent.edu for details and to register for workshops.
IS also provides full access to Lynda.com (via Lynda.kent.edu), which has a multitude of self-paced online video tutorials on all Adobe applications in the suite.
TechHelp workshops and access to Lynda.kent.edu are free to all Kent State students, faculty, and staff.
