Playing with toys is fun. But it is not just fun. Toys have a lot to offer for scientists to learn how scientific concepts can be translated to entertaining objects. A LCI/CPIP Professor Robin Selinger wrote an article for September 2013 issue of MRS Bulletin entitled "Toying with Science." "Toys and activities popular with pre-teen girls," she writes, "have many surprising connections to modern themes in materials science, mathematics, chemistry, and physics, and they prepared me well for the research I pursue as an adult."
Playing with toys may be a good way to make science class more exciting and embracing.
