Honoring the Legacy of Dick Schwabe, ’47, M.Ed. ’52

Join us for a special celebration to honor Dick Schwabe, ’47, M.Ed. ’52, at the dedication of the Richard F. Schwabe Lobby in the FedEx Aeronautics Academic Center. Richard "Dick" Schwabe, known as "Schwa-bee," played a pivotal role in establishing Kent State University's flight program in 1966.

The dedication will be held prior to the Pilot Pinning Ceremony.

Dick joined the Air Corps in 1943 and flew "The Hump" over the Himalaya Mountains in World War II with the Air Transport Command. After the war, Mr. Schwabe completed his bachelor's and master's degrees at Kent State. He taught and coached at Randolph, Aurora, and Tallmadge high schools. He returned to Kent in '66 where he helped establish KSU's current flight program, flew acrobatics in several local airshows, and served as a flight instructor and F.A.A. Examiner for 40 years. The university honored Mr. Schwabe as Professor Emeritus in the College of Technology, Aerospace department.

The Richard F. "Dick" Schwabe Endowed Scholarship was established to encourage students enrolled in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, specifically the flight technology concentration, who have demonstrated the capacity and motivation to achieve educational and professional goals and the initiative to seek opportunities to further their progress.
