This three-day workshop is free and open to high school educators and administrators who want to educate future manned aircraft pilots and UAS operators. Topics covered include drone flight techniques, Part 107 certification guidance, drone registration procedures, and operating within a crewed environment. This workshop includes training sessions to use Kent State’s established curriculum and tools to discuss educational and career pathways with students, and training in virtual reality (VR) curriculum in aircraft pilot and UAS operations.

Join us for a special celebration to honor Dick Schwabe, ’47, M.Ed. ’52, at the dedication of the Richard F. Schwabe Lobby in the FedEx Aeronautics Academic Center. Richard "Dick" Schwabe, known as "Schwa-bee," played a pivotal role in establishing Kent State University's flight program in 1966.

The dedication will be held prior to the Pilot Pinning Ceremony.

 

2024 Pilot Pinning Ceremony

Students who have earned their Private Pilot Certificate at Kent State University or have completed their first flight course at Kent State University are invited to participate in the ceremonial pinning of wings. Private pilots will receive 2 sets of wings from an alumni professional pilot from Kent State University. The wings will differ in size and include larger set to be worn at formal events and gatherings and a smaller lapel set to be worn in business casual settings.

This family friendly event has been a fixture in the Stow/Kent community for more than two decades and we are thrilled to bring this event back and showcase our Airport and FedEx Aeronautics Academic Center to the entire community.  The Expo offers a unique look into the Kent State Airport and offers one-of-a-kind activities for both the young - and young at heart.

Join us at the Kent State Airport for a day of celebrating and empowering girls in aviation! Participants will have the opportunity to fly drones, try out our flight simulators, and explore our fleet of aircraft & sit in the flight deck!
