Academics

Our Florence program gives you the opportunity to study in ‘the Cradle of the Renaissance’. You can spend a full semester or summer completing your junior-level coursework at the beautiful Palazzo Vettori. You’ll be taught by Florence-based faculty who are multilingual and highly supportive, and will take trips to important European and Italian fashion and textile industry sites. Inspiration is everywhere in this city, as you’ll walk the same stone streets as Michelangelo, Galileo and Dante, to name just a few.

FINANCIAL AID

While taking part in a semester or summer term with the Florence study away program, you’ll pay Kent State University tuition rates, based on your in-state (Ohio resident), out-of-state (all other U.S citizens), or international status. As a full-time student, you’ll also have access to the same financial aid and extensive scholarship opportunities offered to main campus students while you’re enrolled here. The School of Fashion Scholarship applications come out in December by email. The application is due by January 31st. Late applications are not accepted. It is recommended to anyone studying abroad to apply for The School of Fashion scholarships.

If you’re a guest student, you’ll need to apply for financial aid and scholarships through your home institution. Once you’ve been approved, you’ll be able to apply them to your ‘Florence Fashion’ experience. Living costs can be high in Florence, so we recommend you take full advantage of any financial aid or scholarship opportunities that you’re eligible for.

Financial Aid for Visiting Domestic Students

As a visiting student from a university in the U.S, you’ll need to apply for financial aid through your home institution. Speak to your school’s Financial Aid office for more guidance on how to receive financial aid as a transient student to Kent State.

Typically, this will require an Ad Hoc Consortium Agreement that must be filled out by both schools. Please send any required documents to:

HELPFUL QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR FINANCIAL AID OFFICE

  • If I have scholarships, will I be able to use them while studying as a visiting student at Kent State?
  • Is there any financial aid that I’m not eligible for?
  • Is there any paperwork I need to fill in to receive financial aid while I’m a visiting student at Kent State?
  • How will my financial aid transfer to Kent State to pay my bill?
  • When will my financial aid be available? Will it arrive before Kent State’s payment deadline?
  • If I need more financial aid, what are my options?
  • If my financial aid is higher than the bill, how do I get a refund?
  • Kent State's Financial Aid office won't process my financial aid because I’m a visiting student. Does Kent State have to complete any forms so that you can process my financial aid?
  • Is there anyone else I need to tell about my visiting student status?

Financial Aid for Visiting International Students

International students should ask their college or university about any available financial support that can be claimed during their time in Florence.
