School of Fashion Partners with MOCA Cleveland for Visual Design Competition

Kent State University School of Fashion students are invited to submit designs for the 2021 Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA Cleveland)'s Visual Design Competition. One winning design will be chosen for display in MOCA Cleveland's window display space in Cleveland, OH and one winning design will be chosen for display in the first floor Rockwell Hall window space. Winners will receive $500 from MOCA Cleveland.

Assembling Your Team

Your design team should have no more than three members. 


The Deadlines

Your team's submission is due no later than Oct. 14, 2021, at 5:00 p.m.

Your team's completed display is due no later than Nov. 14, 2021.


The Prompt

In coordination with MOCA Cleveland’s current exhibition, Axis Mundo: Queer Networks in Chicano LA, Kent State University School of Fashion and MOCA invite you to submit your ideas using fashion and contemporary art to explore the relationships between gender expression, play, and DIY culture. Use of thrifted, found, and recycled materials is encouraged.

What to Submit

  • A visual trend board (PDF or Video) of your idea

  • 1-3 paragraph explanation of your vision

  • Approximate budget of your installation

  • Timeline of your project (to be completed no later than November 14)


Funding

The School of Fashion will offer a materials budget of up to $500 for each selected team.

The Judges

Design submissions will be judged by a panel of fashion and art experts including David Evan Frantz, Louise Valentine, and C. Ondine Chavoya.


When Winners Will Be Announced

Winning teams will be announced on Oct. 18, 2021. 

Materials funding will be provided to teams at that time.

Award monies will be presented to winning teams after display construction is complete.
