Course Name: ID 30391 History of Italian Interiors
Description: In this course we will study the most consequential interiors of the Italian tradition from the Renaissance through modern times. We will discover how the seismic ideological and cultural shifts taking place at the turn of the Renaissance influenced the greatest architects and designers, including Brunelleschi, Michelangelo and Bernini, while also uncovering the vital roles played by women, and addressing Italian innovation within a broader European and Mediterranean context. Since the course takes place in Florence—the cradle of the Renaissance, Florentine interiors will be given special consideration, especially for our many visits.
