The Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology prepares students to analyze the distribution and determinants of disease, disabilities and death in populations. Graduates are able to apply quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate disease outbreaks, determine causal relationships between environmental and biological factors and conduct studies to project health trends in populations. Students benefit from public health faculty research agendas in immigrant and refugee health, chronic disease, cancer and infectious disease epidemiology.
Career opportunities for graduates include research positions in universities, medical schools and pharmaceutical companies; disease prevention specialists in hospitals; and surveillance managers in state and local health departments.

Students have the opportunity to complete a dual degree program with the M.P.H. degree in Epidemiology and the M.S. degree in Health Informatics. A separate application must be submitted for each program. Students can view admission requirements for each program on their respective catalog page.
The fully online dual degree prepares students for careers at the intersection of public health, data science, healthcare technology and disease prevention and response. Students learn how to build and manage health data systems and analyze and interpret public health data.

A college minor is a set of courses that a student takes to complement or enhance the value of his or her major. Generally, students who wish to earn a minor have to take five to six courses that pertain to the subject field.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Cybercriminology incorporates the understanding of computer systems and networks with criminal behavior and processes in identifying, preventing and investigating cyber-related threats and crimes. Students are involved with project-based research and other experiential learning opportunities focused on technology and the legal, ethical and criminology aspects of modern crime, making them well prepared for work in a myriad of professional positions ranging from security/intelligence analysts and investigators to network and security administrators.

First-Year Students on the Kent Campus: First-year admission policy on the Kent Campus is selective. Admission decisions are based upon cumulative grade point average, strength of high school college preparatory curriculum and grade trends. Students not admissible to the Kent Campus may be administratively referred to one of the seven regional campuses to begin their college coursework. First-Year Students on the Regional Campuses: First-year admission to Kent State’s campuses at Ashtabula, East Liverpool, Geauga, Salem, Stark, Trumbull and Tuscarawas, as well as the Twinsburg Academic Center, is open to anyone with a high school diploma or its equivalent. International Students: All international students must provide proof of proficiency of the English language (unless they meet specific exceptions) through the submission of an English language proficiency test score or by completing English language classes at Kent State’s English as a Second Language Center before entering their program. Former Students: Former Kent State students who have not attended another institution since Kent State and were not academically dismissed will complete the re-enrollment process through the Financial, Billing and Enrollment Center. Former students who attended another college or university since leaving Kent State must apply for admissions as a transfer or post-undergraduate student.

A minimum C grade must be earned to fulfill the writing-intensive requirement.
It is recommended that students choose one criminology and justice studies (CRIM) course and one information technology (IT) course.
If students complete the American Civic Literacy requirement by taking HIST 12061, the course will apply to the Kent Core Humanities category. If they complete it with POL 10101, the course will apply to the Kent Core Social Sciences category.
Students are strongly advised to take MATH 10041 or MATH 10051 to fulfill the Kent Core Mathematics and Critical Reasoning requirement.
