Monica Moll was named The Ohio State University’s Director of Public Safety in October of 2016. She is responsible for the direction of OSU’s Police Division, Communications & Security Technology, Emergency Management & Fire Prevention, Central Campus Security Services and Wexner Medical Center Security.
Director Moll completed her undergraduate degree in Social Work at The University of Akron. She has both a Master of Public Administration degree and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Kent State University. Commenting on her experiences in the department of Political Science,
While taking courses in the Ph.D. program, I was working as a police supervisor. I was often struck by how relevant the topics covered in the course work were to my job and the policy environment law enforcement agencies operate within. As I moved up through the ranks and became a police chief and public safety executive, I realized how well my studies had prepared me to develop a “big picture” focus when tackling problems related to crime and disorder. I had the opportunity to be mentored by excellent faculty who encouraged me to stick with the program and ultimately to choose a dissertation topic that was timely and related to my career. I am confident the knowledge gained in pursuing this degree enabled me to perform well in prior jobs and to secure my current position.
