What do you research?

France: I studied the special population of Black pregnant and postpartum women with the Program for Research on Anxiety Disorders among African Americans (PRADAA) lab underneath Dr. Neal-Barnett. Specifically, in this population I examined their exposure to chronic stress, trauma, and racism.

How did you become involved with research?

France: I looked at numerous labs that KSU had to offer for psychology majors. After finding the PRADAA lab, I knew it was the perfect fit for me based on the friendly environment it offered and because of the specific research area that they study!

Favorite aspect of research?

France: It has been simply seeing my results and my paper coming together. I decided to turn my work from over the summer into a senior honors thesis, so seeing my work on paper is an amazing feeling! Also, I want to study trauma and stress in graduate school, so getting an early start and knowledge into the field has been fascinating, as well as rewarding!

How has research impacted you?

France: Research has opened doors for me that I never thought would be possible. It shaped my research and career interests, it has made me more knowledgeable, and it has made me step out of my comfort zone (regarding public speaking). Due to my extensive research, I feel more confident on continuing onto graduate school and what my future endeavors will hold.
