Research Involving Animals (IACUC)

Before beginning research, testing, or teaching activities that involve the use of live vertebrate animals, the principal investigator must receive the approval of a Request to Use Animals application from Kent State Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

The IACUC has been established to uphold the University’s commitment to assuring humane care and use of animals in research and education. The IACUC is responsible for ensuring that research involving the use of animals at the University adheres to:

Animal Welfare Assurance
The Office of Research Compliance provides administrative support for the Animal Care and Use Program at Kent State, which is accredited through the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC 000665).

Types of Review

Research or teaching projects involving the use of animals are subject to either full-committee or designated member review processes. The IACUC makes the final decision for the level of review that is needed.
