Application Process, Timelines, and Meeting Dates

Investigators send completed IACUC applications and required submission materials (training certificates, standard operating procedures, etc.) to the ORC by email. After logging the protocol into our database and verifying that the submission is complete, the ORC distributes the protocol for review to the IACUC. Status of approval, clarifications requested by the IACUC, and requests to attend the IACUC meeting are communicated to investigators by email.

IACUC approval can take two (2) to four (6) weeks, depending on the complexity and completeness of the submitted application, as well as the volume of applications arriving in our office, so we encourage researchers to plan accordingly and consider meeting dates if applicable.

It is important to remember that for studies that qualify for the designated review process, the IACUC meeting dates are not applicable, and protocols are accepted by the ORC at any time. Studies that require review at a convened meeting, however, are reviewed once per month. Each meeting has a corresponding agenda deadline. A study must be submitted on or before the agenda deadline to be reviewed by the committee at that month's meeting

Materials for items that require full committee review are due by 12 p.m. 5 business days prior to the meeting.
