Student Death
Student Death Protocol & Assistance
In the unfortunate event of a current student’s death, the Dean of Students serves as the point person and lead of the student death protocol. Our protocol regarding the death of a student is centered around compassion for the family and the wellness of our university community. The Dean of Students works collaboratively with key campus constituents to assist with the needs of the family and the university community. Questions can be directed to the Office of the Dean of Students by emailing ODOS@kent.edu or calling (330) 672-8003.
Posthumous Degree
The policy regarding posthumous degrees provides the process for the recognition and award of a degree to an eligible student who was enrolled at the university at or prior to their death. The operational policy regarding posthumous degrees can be found in the University Policy Register.
Flashes Remembrance Event
The Kent State University Flashes Remembrance event honors students who have passed away during the previous academic year. Family members will be invited to attend an annual event with an expression of the arts, remarks from university leadership, and provided a cherished keepsake of remembrance. The university community is welcome to attend to reflect and remember.
The remembrance will take place at the Memorial Gardens (located on Manchester Field) or Schwebel Room (rain location in the Student Center) on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.
