Congratulations are in order for Dr. I. Richmond Netty of the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, who has accepted his reappointment as Chair of the Standing Technical Committee on Airport Terminals and Ground Access. In this position, Dr. Netty will serve a three year term beginning in April 2023. The Committee concerns itself with airport planning, design, operations, and maintenance, with a focus on access points for passengers and goods. This committee is one of nine total committees within the Transportation Research Board’s Aviation Group. The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is one of seven units overseen by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, which provide advice to policy makers in specified areas.
Dr. Netty has served as a Committee member since 2003. In addition to this, Dr. Netty had also previously served as the College of Aeronautics and Engineering Associate Dean, and has developed undergraduate and graduate courses and textbooks. Dr. Netty’s 2012 and 2013 proposals were selected by the US Department of State to host faculty members from Libya participating in the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program. Dr. Netty has served as a consultant or subject matter expert for numerous government and nongovernment agencies, including the US Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Houston Airport System.
Dr. Netty has been the recipient of numerous awards for his work, including the Wheatley Award in 2014 for “Outstanding Contribution to Aviation Education” from the University Aviation Association. Dr. Netty was the 2004 recipient of the Ron McNair award from the FAA for a “lifetime of contribution to the field of aeronautics and aviation.” He was also recognized in 1995 with an Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Award.
