Kent State Faculty Honored as Exceptional Women in Aerospace

In a premiere annual awards dinner and ceremony hosted by Women in Aerospace (WIA), two exemplary women from Kent State’s College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE) will receive prestigious awards in recognition of their remarkable achievements in the aerospace community.

These accolades underscore both women’s profound impact on the aerospace industry and their dedication to fostering diversity and excellence within it.

WIA is a leading professional organization dedicated to expanding women's opportunities for leadership, education and visibility in the aerospace community. Their annual 2023 dinner and ceremony will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, in Arlington, Va.

Dr. Christina Bloebaum, CAE dean, will be presented the Aerospace Educator Award in recognition of her excellent leadership and sustained dedication to aerospace education and for her tenacious advocacy for girls and young women in the field. Prior to Kent State, Dr. Bloebaum held the Dennis and Rebecca Muilenburg Professorship of Aerospace Engineering at Iowa State University, where she also served as director of the Iowa Space Grant Consortium. Her impressive career also includes being the program director for the Engineering and Systems Design (ESD) and System Science (SYS) programs at the National Science Foundation.

Dr. Marla Pérez-Davis, director of CAE’s Center for Advanced Air Mobility, will be presented the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her dedication and advancement of the aerospace industry and her championship for future generations of diverse aerospace leaders. Dr. Perez-Davis is the Director of Kent State's new Center for Advanced Air Mobility.  Dr. Perez-Davis formerly served as the Director of NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland where she oversaw all operations of the renowned research institution.  In December of 2022, it was announced that Dr. Perez-Davis was selected to serve as a member of the National Space Council’s Users Advisory Group (UAG). The UAG provides the National Space Council, chaired by Vice President Kamala Harris, advice and recommendations on matters related to space policy and strategy.
