On Saturday, November 12th, representatives from the Kent State University Women in Engineering Club were invited to present a program session at the Central Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls Regional Leadership Conference (CAACURH RLC 2022). Events Coordinator Haley Dees and Recruitment Chair Lilly Kensicki presented So You Want to Host An Outreach Event?, a program based on the planning process and lessons learned from the Women in Engineering Club’s recent event, Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. As part of the session, attendees were led through an exercise to each plan a part of their own event. By the end of this exercise, participants learned that large-scale event planning takes cooperation and coordination from all parties involved.
CAACURH RLC 2022 was the first event held in-person since the COVID-19 pandemic, and was hosted in various locations throughout the Kent State University campus. Universities in Ohio, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Washington D.C. sent delegates to the conference to attend various board and committee meetings. Delegates were also able to attend a variety of program sessions covering topics such as intersectionality, mental health as a student leader, and more.
CAACURH is an affiliate of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls, which is an organization dedicated to creating a network of residence hall leaders through leadership and networking opportunities. For more information, visit https://www.caacurh.nacurh.org/.
