One of Wick Poetry Center's youngest stars, Isabella Rodriguez, dazzled the crowd at the 77th annual Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards on Thursday when she read her luminous poem "Home" on stage at the Ohio Theatre in front of nearly 800 guests, which included former U.S. poet laureate Rita Dove and jury chair, Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
Rodriguez's poem is part of the Traveling Stanzas project, a collaborative, community arts project between the Wick Poetry Center and Kent State University's Glyphix design studio. Community members and visitors to Northeast Ohio can see the beautifully designed posters "traveling" around the region on Cleveland RTA mass transit, as well as on Portage County's PARTA.
