The Blushing Bride

The Blushing Bride Collection is an investigation into my thesis “how can one express and empower brides through non-traditional bridal wear to challenge the ideals within feminism and standards of the traditional bride.” The collection pays homage to my mother and irreproachable femininity through my silhouettes, hand embroidery, and rare color pallet.

What If?

My focus area for this thesis is the body, garment, and the deepening relationship between the two. I like to observe how a person walks, breathes, bends, stretches etc. and through those movements it shows the power clothing has over the body. The full collection highlights the internal conversation that a wearer has when putting on garments or moving around in them. This internal conversation allows for the deepening relationship between a wearer and their clothes.

Neo Amer/ca

“Neo Amer/ca” is the name of a museum exhibition concept to take place 50 years in the future. It documents American fashion from the 3rd decade of the 21st century by juxtaposing modern and heritage American silhouettes, techniques, fabrics, and garments. Adam Maysen is the acting curator by designing garments he invisions to be in his exhibition. Its purpose is to present the culmination of American fashion through an antiquated lense to bring a similar nostalgia that fashion from the late 20th century has in present time.

Calvario

This collection searches the "Archetype" of Mexican (and Latin American) Woman archetype by exploring the spectrum of femininity and the idea(s). Rather than accepting and eternalizing a concrete stereotype influenced by religious icons such as The Virgins, the artist explores the spectrum of womanhood and its different expressions valued from authenticity.

Articulation

This collection explores how fashion and print can be used to articulate challenges both girls and women face in our society. Cyanotype was used to dye the fabric and create the prints by using UV lamps to photograph the prints and transform white fabric into a colorful collection. 

Indomitable

An upscale evening-wear collection, employing couture techniques, embodies "Indomitable" resilience. Textile manipulations, like hand-sewn pinstripes, depict trauma and subsequent rebuilding. Graffiti's rebellion inspires vibrant colors, while germ theory motifs symbolize regrowth. Referencing resilient symbols from black culture, like the zoot suit and durags, it embodies enduring influence. 

Passionate Attitudes

This collection delves into the historical impact of "hysteria" on the female identity, it explores its portrayal in narratology, psychoanalysis, feminism, and the healthcare system. Insight from case studies inform the collection, addressing it through shape, silhouette and colors. Encouraging a more informed appreciation of the intricate dynamics between her state of mind and societal perception. 

Reverence

Reverence is a sartorial study on the experience of growing up as a minority. As a Korean-American, highlighting all aspects of my reality is important– racism, microaggressions, fetishization, etc. I created a juxtaposition through silhouettes between my personal style within my home country (U.S.) and traditional aspects from my Korean culture.

Double Conscious

Double Conscious is a fashion collection that explores the concept of dual identity in Black Americans through an Afro-surrealist lens. The term Double consciousness was coined by W.E.B DuBios to describe the “peculiar sensation” Black Americans endure within a  eurocentric society. This collection articulates these ideas through use of color, contrasting textures, and Afro-surrealist inspired motifs. 

Perception

Amelia Thomas’ luxury evening wear collection, “Perception”, examines the relationship of perfectionism within fashion; taking inspiration from dance movement. A dichotomy of chaos and control is expressed within the materials. Amelia utilizes a sustainable, non-toxic thermoplastic. She hand molded and painted a thermoplastic corset bodice. This juxtaposition is also expressed through pleats, seamlines, and movement of fabrics. Enjoy.

The Art of Making Do

“The Art of Making Do explores the history and beauty of fashion & craftsmanship within the south and the dichotomy between the relationship of the two. The collection through craftsmanship, silhouette, and fabric shows the beauty, creativity, and history while challenging the presumption of lack of luxury within the rural south.” 

The Living Standard

In the collection “The Living Standard," Zoe Wenger satirizes how women’s bodies have been molded throughout fashion history and points out the paradox in which the definition of beauty constantly rewrites itself and forces the “living standard” to adapt.

No Space to Breathe

My collection "No Space to Breathe" delves into the oppressive weight of societal pressures through the symbolism of the corset, evoking feelings of constraint and suffocation. By exploring these themes, my thesis collection seeks to raise awareness about the challenges individuals face and stimulate discussions on coping strategies and resilience-building techniques.

Urban Drifter

"Urban Drifter": A unisex collection inspired by nomadic lifestyles, crafted from durable ripstop/nylon fabric. Designed for modern travelers, it offers versatile, easy-to-pack pieces for the urban jungle. Blending style with functionality, it reflects a lifestyle that values both aesthetics and practicality, catering to the needs of constant explorers in today's changing fashion scene.
