2027-2028 FAFSA Form Opens October 1, 2026

The 2027-28 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form will open for all students to complete by October 1, 2026. This is for Summer 2027, Fall 2027, and Spring 2028 terms.

Filing the FAFSA by January 15, 2027 gives students priority to receive the maximum amount of financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans and work-study.

Here are some things you should complete before applying:

Create a StudentAid.gov account if you do not have one already. Students and contributors must each have their own account(s). Check out our “FAFSA resources" information below to learn more about who is required to be a contributor on your FAFSA.
Make sure you have your Social Security number (unless you are a citizen of the Freely Associated States).
Gather the tax records based upon the chart above and the FAFSA year you are completing.
Gather records of your assets, including any child support received; current balances of cash, savings, and checking accounts; and net worth of investments, business, and farms.
Make sure you know your contributor's information if applicable. You will need their name, date of birth, Social Security number (if they have one), and email address.
Know what schools you would like to send your FAFSA information to (if you are a high school senior) or your current school's name.

Kent State FAFSA School Codes

A FAFSA school code, or Federal School Code, is a unique six-character identifier assigned by the U.S. Department of Education to schools participating in Title IV federal student aid programs, used on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to indicate which school(s) you want to receive your financial aid results.

How to Get Help

Kent Campus Students

Stop by for “FAFSA in a Flash” walk-in assistance! Whether you’re completing the FAFSA or making corrections, the Financial, Billing and Enrollment Center (FBE) is available to provide hands-on help during normal business hours—no appointment required. Visit the FBE Welcome Desk in Room 207 (2nd Floor, University Library) to speak with a staff member.

If you prefer, appointments are available with In-Person or Virtual options.

Setting Up Your FSA Username & Password(FSA ID)

Setting up your FSA account is required for online access to the FAFSA. Each student, spouse or parent contributor must have an FSA ID prior to starting the FAFSA.

Financial Aid Estimator

The Financial Aid Estimator tool will help students and families estimate any federal aid they may be eligible for during the 2025-2026 academic year. Students must provide some basic financial information to help calculate the estimated Student Aid Index(SAI) and potential federal assistance. This is not the actual FAFSA. You will need to go to www.fafsa.gov to file the form. The form is slated to open in December 2024.

For dependent students, this online tool will help determine which parent(s) information to report on the FAFSA.

FAFSA Prototype

The FAFSA Prototype will give you a chance to use an example database to understand the look and feel of the 2025-2026 FAFSA. PLEASE NOTE: This is not the actual FAFSA database and using this tool is not submitting an actual FAFSA for 2025-2026.
