Closing the Financial Gap
If you still need help covering your college expenses after completing the FAFSA and accepting your financial aid offer, please explore the options below:
Outside Scholarships
Investigate whether there are any local scholarships you can apply for. Find other scholarships and reputable websites by using ScholarshipUniverse at Kent State University.
Direct PLUS Loan (For Parents Only)
Parents can apply for a Direct PLUS Loan, which is credit based. Additional loan funding is available for the student if the parent’s credit application is denied. Learn more about the Direct PLUS loans on our financial aid loan page.
Monthly Payment Plan
Kent State offers students and their families the ability to spread their costs over a monthly payment plan for the fall or spring semesters.
Education Savings Plan
If you have an established education savings plan (529 Plan), please request that payment be sent to Kent State from your provider at least two weeks before the billing due date. If you have questions about using your education savings plan, please visit our 529 Plan FAQ’s for more information. We recommend requesting payment by December 15, 2023, for the spring semester.
Private Loans
Students may apply for a private loan with a credit-worthy co-signer, if necessary.
Special Circumstances Application
If the information submitted on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is no longer an accurate representation of your family’s current financial situation, a Special Circumstance application can be submitted with qualifying circumstances.
Tuition Guarantee
For most students, Kent State tuition, room and board are guaranteed for four years, which makes it easier to plan with confidence. You will also find a list of FAQs.
Room and Meal Plan Options
For students attending the Kent Campus and planning to live on campus, be sure to research room costs and meal plan options to be prepared when you receive your invoice.
