Loan Proration
Loan Proration for Students enrolling less than fulltime
NEW for 2627: As a result of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Federal Direct Loans for all students not attending full-time will be prorated. Full-time for undergraduate students is a total of 24 hours total for the year. Full-time for graduate students is 16 hours total for the year. Because the federal rulemaking process is ongoing, details may continue to evolve, and this website will be updated with any new information.
Proration for Part-Time Undergraduate Students
Federal regulations require that when an undergraduate student is enrolled in a program that is one academic year or more in length, but in a remaining period of study that is shorter than a full academic year, their Federal Direct Loan amount must be prorated.
Proration for Graduating Undergraduate Students Enrolled in Only One Semester
Students who graduate in Summer only, Fall only or Spring only will have their Federal Direct Loans prorated during their final semester. The loan limit proration determines the maximum loan amount that a student may borrow for the final term of study based on the degree they are earning.
It is important to notify the Financial, Billing and Enrollment Center if you are graduating in the summer, fall or spring terms and that term is your only term of enrollment. Your loans may be adjusted after disbursement which could result in a bill with the university.
