In January 2022, 582,462 people experienced homelessness in the U.S. on a single night, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Young homeless mothers are particularly vulnerable as they struggle to meet their basic needs and those of their children. They may also suffer from substance use disorders and physical and mental health problems. Smart Devices
This emerging media & technology seminar course seeks to provide an investigative and experiential learning environment, in which students learn about the platforms and technologies behind Smart Devices, from edge devices to core cloud services through research and hands-on activities. Topics covered include background in “Internet of Things” (IoT), physical sensing, platforms, and security. The course culminates with small teams of students developing a Smart Device and connecting it to a cloud-based IoT service.
