Kent State University at Stark presents a Black History Month Video Competition, sponsored by the Black History Month Committee.
WHAT
Students will produce original videos no longer than six minutes that focus on some aspect of Black History. Students can work as individuals or in groups to produce their videos.
ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS
Stark County middle School, high school and college students with proof of school attendance. One entry per student.
SUBMITTING ENTRIES
Entries can be submitted as an attachment to an email, mailed in on a USB or disk or uploaded to a drop box file. Link to drop box will be provided by emailing Dr. Leslie Heaphy at lheaphy@kent.edu. If you mail your entry, it should be sent to Dr. Leslie Heaphy, Kent State University at Stark, 6000 Frank Avenue NW, North Canton, OH 44720. It must be postmarked before January 4, 2017 to be considered for an award.
CRITERIA
Students can choose any subject matter related to Black History. The video submitted must be original and the work of the students. The topic can be presented as a documentary-style film, as a short play written and filmed by the students, as a monologue, etc. All sources must be cited, including credit for any images or music not created by the students. Videos over six minutes long or without proper credits will be automatically disqualified. All entries should have a title and credits.
All entries must be accompanied with contact information for all involved in making the video—name, phone number and email contact—and what category they wish the film to be judged in: documentary, monologue, original play, musical or other. In addition each entry must be accompanied by a letter of support from teacher, school official or faculty member.
Schools can submit as many entries as they like or choose to submit only their best entries as they wish. Students can only submit one entry—either as an individual or as part of a group. All entries will be judged by a committee of students and faculty from Kent State. The judges’ decision will be final.
