Post-Undergraduate Certificate

The Pre-Health undergraduate certificate allows post-undergraduate students with non-science backgrounds to prepare for health professional school applications. The program structure is flexible in order to provide courses necessary for admission to a variety of professional schools including medical, dental, pharmacy, physician assistant/associate, podiatry, optometry, and veterinary medicine.

Admission to the certificate is selective. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 3.000 undergraduate GPA on a 4.000-point scale (all course attempts included in this calculation)
  • Demonstrated proficiency through the equivalent of college algebra or higher

Students must earn a minimum 3.200 GPA in the certificate after the first year to be permitted to continue in the program. A minimum 3.200 certificate GPA is also required for graduation. Professional programs are highly competitive and some may require or recommend a higher GPA.

Students who hold a minimum 3.250 GPA in the certificate and are meeting admission requirements will be given preferential interview consideration for the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine

Certificate students will be expected to meet regularly with the Pre-Health Academic Program Director in the College of Arts and Sciences to receive assistance in both choosing appropriate electives and planning for their future application.

There is a full description of the certificate including course requirements in the University Catalog.
