Mike Fath has been a friend of the campus for many years, presenting on wonderful topics such as The Newbury Chapel. He will be presenting again at the Geauga Campus's Lunch and Learn noontime program on November 10. The program is sponsored by the Working Group for Diversity.
After graduating from Burton High School, Fath completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Chemistry at Kent State University. The next 40+ years were spent in various scientific, marketing, management and education positions in the Akron area rubber industry where he was the author or co-author of approximately 20 technical publications in the field of rubber technology. He was also fortunate to have had the opportunity to lecture worldwide on polymer technology as well as to teach short courses on this subject at several universities.
Mike Fath is the inventor or co-inventor of 3 U.S. and approximately 20 foreign patents including a basic patent on a new technology which is a nearly two billion dollar per year worldwide market today.
Fath's retirement interests include music and Ohio archaeology. Musically, he is a member of the Great Geauga County Fair Band. His interest in Ohio archaeology led to him becoming a member of the Archaeology Society of Ohio where he has published several articles in the “Ohio Archaeologist” journal and has developed and conducted several presentations about Ohio prehistoric cultures to share with Geauga County residents.
His wife Joan, a retired elementary school teacher, and he moved back to his 1856 built childhood home in Burton Township near Eldon Russell Park. As a returning resident of Burton (having been gone nearly 40 years in the Akron area), they are enjoying retirement and their five grandkids.
