MDJ's Tang Tang Elected Research Chair of Broadcast Education Association

Professor Tang Tang, who holds a joint appointment in the School of Media and Journalism and the School of Emerging Media and Technology at Kent State University, has been elected by the Board of Directors of the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) to serve as the organization's Research Chair.

The BEA is the premier international academic media organization, supporting excellence in media production and career advancement for educators, students and professionals worldwide. Its signature event is an annual conference held alongside the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in Las Vegas each April.

The election is a natural extension of Tang's deep ties to the organization. Her research has earned more than 20 Top Paper Awards from the BEA, the National Communication Association, and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. She has also held previous leadership positions within BEA and serves on editorial boards for several leading journals in communication and sport. kent

"This is a tremendous honor and a reflection of Tang's national standing in our field," said Emily Metzgar, director of the School of Media and Journalism. "We are incredibly proud to have her representing Kent State in this leadership role."

Tang's research has focused on the uses and effects of emerging media technologies — including social media, virtual reality and esports — as well as sports communication and cross-platform media behaviors during major sporting events. She is also a Faculty Fellow of the Television Academy, the International Radio and Television Society, and the National Association of Television Program Executives, and serves as an Academic Referee for the International Olympic Committee. kent

The BEA also sponsors the Festival of Media Arts, a juried competition for faculty and student work. MDJ students have earned honorable mention honors in that competition two years running.
