This program is specifically designed for the preschool 4 and 5-year-olds.  Skaters will develop preliminary coordination and strength on the ice while learning the proper falling and standing techniques, marching forward across the ice, gliding on two feet, and become more comfortable and controlled. Children must be four years of age before the scheduled session. U.S. Figure Skating recommends the use of a hockey or multi-sport helmet for all beginner skaters. The format of class is as follows: 35 minutes of group instruction followed by 15 minutes of supervised practice.

Hockey Prep

This beginner class for 5 and 6-year-olds is designed to build confidence while learning the fundamentals of hockey skating. Skills taught include the basic hockey stance, balance, stride, knee bend, and use of edges.  The use of full hockey equipment, including a stick, is not permitted, however, a hockey helmet or multi-sport helmet is recommended. The format of class is as follows: 35 minutes of group instruction followed by 15 minutes of supervised practice. Children must be five years of age before or turn during the scheduled session.

Basic 1

A beginner class for skaters starting at 6-year-olds that teaches basic skills and safety. Skaters learn proper falling and standing skills, marching forward across the ice, two-foot glides, basic forward swizzles, basic backward wiggles, and beginning snowplow stops. U.S. Figure Skating recommends the use of a hockey or multi-sport helmet for all beginner skaters. The format of class is as follows: 35 minutes of group instruction followed by 15 minutes of supervised practice. Children must be six years of age before or turn during the scheduled session.

Basic 2

A continuation of Basic 1. Skaters must have passed the Basic 1 class as a prerequisite. Safety, fun and making the skater comfortable on the ice are the focus of this class. Skaters learn alternate leg scooter pushes, forward one-foot glides, backwards two-foot glides, backwards swizzles, two-foot turns from forwards to backwards, and a moving snowplow stop. U.S. Figure Skating recommends the use of a hockey or multi-sport helmet for all beginner skaters. The format of class is as follows: 35 minutes of group instruction followed by 15 minutes of supervised practice. Children must be seven years of age or turn before the scheduled session.

Basic 3

A continuation of Basic 2. Skaters must have passed the Basic 2 class as a prerequisite. Safety, fun and confidence on the ice are the focus. Skaters learn forward stroking showing the correct use of the blade, forward half swizzles on a circle, forwards to backwards turns on a circle, backwards one-foot glides, and backwards snowplow stop.  U.S. Figure Skating strongly recommends the use of a hockey or multi-sport helmet for all beginner skaters. The format of class is as follows: 35 minutes of group instruction followed by 15 minutes of supervised practice.

Basic 4

A continuation of Basic 3. Skaters must have passed the Basic 3 class as a prerequisite. The class develops an understanding and ability in the use of forward edges and strengthens backward skating skills. Skaters learn forward inside and outside edges, forward crossovers clockwise and counterclockwise, backwards half swizzles on a circle, and beginning two-foot spin. U.S. Figure Skating strongly recommends the use of a hockey or multi-sport helmet for all beginner skaters. The format of class is as follows: 35 minutes of group instruction followed by 15 minutes of supervised practice.

Basic 5/6

A continuation of Basic 4.  Skaters must have passed the Basic 4 class as a prerequisite. The focus of this class is to further develop backward skating stops and advanced turns. Skaters learn backward outside and inside edges, backward crossovers clockwise and counterclockwise, forward outside and inside three turn, advanced two-foot spin, moving backward to forward two-foot turn on a circle, backward stroking, beginning one-foot spin, t-stops, bunny hop, and forward spiral on a straight line. U.S. Figure Skating strongly recommends the use of a hockey or multi-sport helmet for all beginner skaters. The format of class is as follows: 35 minutes of group instruction followed by 15 minutes of supervised practice.

Adult 1/2

This class, for skaters age 15 and older, covers basic skating skills with a focus on safety and confidence on the ice. The format of class is as follows: 35 minutes of group instruction followed by 15 minutes of supervised practice.

Adult 3/4

A continuation of beginner Adult 1/2 class with an added focus on the proper use of forward edges and strengthening backward skating skills. The format of class is as follows: 35 minutes of group instruction followed by 15 minutes of practice. Skaters must have passed the beginner Adult 1/2 class as a prerequisite.
