Theatre's Consider the Oyster opens on Nov. 10

Runs Nov. 10 - 19

Kent State University at Stark’s 2017-18 theatrical season kicks off with Consider the Oyster by David MacGregor.

The play will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10, 11, 17 and 18 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 12 and 19 at the Kent State Stark Theatre. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be provided for the Nov. 19 performance.

Consider the Oyster features Gene, who, after watching his favorite team win the Super Bowl, spontaneously proposes to his longtime girlfriend, Marisa. In the midst of the excitement, he breaks his leg. A doctor places an oyster shell in Gene’s leg to aid in healing; however, the oyster shell sets off a chain reaction of feminine changes in Gene’s physicality, hormones and emotions. Gender identity and humor explode on stage in this comical, yet thought-provoking, play.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $7 for non-Kent State students and senior citizens. All Kent State students are admitted free of charge with a current student ID. Tickets may be obtained beginning Monday, Oct. 30. Reserve tickets online at www.kent.edu/stark/theatre or call the Kent State Stark Theatre Box Office at 330-244-3348.

Consider the Oyster, the first theatrical production of the season, is directed by Kent State Stark Associate Professor of Theatre and Theatre Director Brian Newberg. Louis Williams is the scenic and lighting designer, Stephen Ostertag is the costume designer and Ron Jarvis is the sound designer.
