Kent State University at Salem recently recognized three employees with Campus Excellence Awards, recognizing exemplary teaching and service to the campus for the 2017-18 academic year.
Margie Bea Iagulli was named outstanding fulltime faculty member; Dr. Jessica Paull was named the outstanding adjunct faculty member; and Sherry DeWitt was recognized as the outstanding staff member.
Iagulli is a senior lecturer for the radiologic technology program and has taught at the Salem Campus for 21 years. She teaches 11 different courses in the radiology program’s associate degree program; two courses for the bachelor’s degree program; First Year Experience (for new Kent State students in all majors); and medical terminology.
Iagulli received a radiology certificate from Youngstown’s St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1984; a Bachelor of Science degree in educational studies in Allied Health from Kent State in 1989; and a Master of Education degree in health, education and promotion from Kent State in 2002.
Prior to her career at Kent State, Iagulli served as the clinical instructor for the radiology program at St. Elizabeth Hospital and worked as a radiological technologist in various physician offices in the Youngstown and Akron areas.
At Kent State Salem, Iagulli serves on staff and faculty search committees; the diversity committee; radiology advisory committee; and was the lead faculty for the curriculum revision for the FYE course. She also serves on Kent State University’s regional college committee.
Iagulli is a licensed track and field official, with 28 years of experience with area track and field events. She also participates with several community outreach activities on behalf of Kent State Salem.
A native of Austintown, Iagulli now lives in Canfield with her partner, Elaine Jacobs. She has a daughter, Lauren Handwork, and three siblings (all retired educators): Tom, Pat and Bill Iagulli. She is the daughter of Ralph and Marge Iagulli.
Paull is a part-time sociology instructor and has taught on the Salem Campus for nine years. She earned three degrees from Kent State University, beginning with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology in 2003; a Master of Arts in sociology in 2004; and her doctorate in sociology in 2013.
Paull teaches a variety of sociology courses, including introduction to sociology; social problems; deviant behavior; difference and equality; and women in justice.
At Kent State Salem, Paull created the sociology bulletin board; co-facilitated a guest-speaker live-stream presentation by Tarana Burke (creator of the #MeToo movement); helped coordinate the “T-time: Teaching and Tech” workshop; was a panel member for a seminar on preparing for graduate school; and served as a judge at the Undergraduate Research Conference.
Paull spent eight years working as an advocate at the non-profit Sojourner House Domestic Violence Shelter, assisting survivors and their families access to in-house and community resources, including emergency shelter, legal advocacy, support groups and one-on-one support.
She is also involved with the community theater in Youngstown, including the Oakland Theatre, Youngstown Playhouse and the Victorian Players. As a member of St. Christine’s Parish, she has also helped reenact the Passion Play.
Paull and her husband, Dave, live in Poland with their daughter, Alice.
DeWitt is the secretary for the nursing and radiology programs on the Kent State Salem Campus where she has been an employee for 21 years.
She is active with several campus and community service projects, including the Banquet of Salem and the Banquet in Lisbon; Destination Kent State orientation; Project Inspire and STEM days; Rural Scholars; and commencement. Prior to her employment with Kent State, she worked as an office assistant at Woodside Receiving Hospital.
DeWitt received an associate of applied business degree from Youngstown State University and is originally from Poland. She now lives in New Middletown with her husband, Anthony, and daughter, Kendra.
