Kent State University at East Liverpool is hosting a free public Safety Service Day March 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Quiet Study Lounge in the main classroom building. East Liverpool Police Chief John Lane, Fire Chief Bill Jones, Nursing Lab Coordinator Janet Peterson and Wellness Counselor Kathrine Vance-Righetti will each share essential safety tips and procedures.
Lane will discuss the proper steps to take in an active shooter situation, during a natural disaster and in emergency situations. Jones will share fire safety information and demonstrate how to properly use a fire extinguisher. Peterson will demonstrate how to administer emergency medical care and discuss the appropriate contacts for a medical crisis. Also presenting at the event, Vance-Righetti will share a complete overview of mental health emergency protocol.
Campus Security Manager Jan Palmer organized the event to provide the campus and community with lifesaving skills and knowledge. “I am hopeful that those in attendance will learn tactics that could potentially save their lives and the lives of others, she said. “You can never be too cautious or too informed. Preparation is key to taking action in emergency situations.”
Refreshments will be provided throughout the day for those who attend the safety presentations. For more information, contact Palmer at jpalmer1@kent.edu or call 330-385-3805.
