Diversity in Medicine
Diversity within medicine is critical. A diverse patient population is deserving of health care providers who understand that race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, and religious beliefs play a role within a patients health, wellbeing, and treatment plans. Furthermore, a diverse field of healthcare providers will be better able to connect with their patients and help to combat the various disparities within healthcare.
The American Podiatric Medicine Association (APMA) has a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion task force working to explore and identify potential equity gaps in APMA practices, policies and procedures that have resulted from historic inaction and silence.
The College of Podiatric Medicine is also striving to recruit and admit students who are traditionally underrepresented in medicine. The College hopes to engage in the development and success of a diverse student population who are eager to address the health inequities that exist in medicine.
