Research
Research is an important aspect of medicine and as an institution we are working to develop more and more opportunities for students to become involved in research. Podiatric medical research is essential in advancing diagnostics and treatment options in order to improve the health of patients. While research is not a required, students will learn research methodology as part of a Medical Research course in the first year curriculum.
Many students choose to participate in research throughout podiatric medical school, however, we encourage students to do so once they have a grasp of the academic coursework.
Dr. Jill Kawalec serves as Division Head of Pre-clinical Sciences and Director of Research at KSUCPM. Dr. Kawalec was eager to share some research projects our faculty and students are currently working on to advance the specialty of podiatric medicine, including a diabetic sock that identifies temperature changes to help diabetic patients.
