Jack E. McWhorter Memorial Scholarship
Jack E. McWhorter was a brilliant painter and beloved professor of art at Kent State University at Stark for 32 years. He served as the coordinator of the studio art program, the campus art galleries and the regional Scholastic Art Awards. Professor McWhorter was also an alumnus, earning his BFA (’76) and MFA (’83) from Kent State University. He passed away in 2022.
The Jack E. McWhorter Memorial Scholarship was created in his memory.
Scholarship Eligibility
- Stark Campus Studio Art major
- Must complete ART 30001: Common Review by the end of the spring semester (prior to the scholarship award in the upcoming fall)

- Scholarship not renewable, but you can reapply
Application Requirements
- Essay: In a few sentences, describe your growth thus far in pursuing a B.A. in Studio Art.
- Provide a portfolio (in pdf format) of 10 pieces of art you created at Kent State Stark.
