All three senior members of the Golden Eagles men's basketball team earned USCAA All-American honors at the awards presentation at Virginia State University on Sunday afternoon. VSU is the site of the men's and women's national basketball championships and also hosted a skills competition that opened up the 2023 tournament.
London Cobbs, a shooting guard who earned USCAA DII, Second Team All-American honors as a junior (last year) and was recently named a two-time USCAA D2 National Player of the Week, won the favor of coaches and athletic directors alike and earned First Team All-American honors this year. He ranks 1st in scoring on the KSU Tuscarawas roster with 17 points per game, has converted on 50% of his field goals on the year, has a team leading 487 (9th) total points on the season. He also averages 78% from the free throw line and has 50 steals and 146 rebounds.
DeJuan Lawrence was named a USCAA D2 Second Team All American after earning Honorable Mention All American honors in 2021-22 as a junior. Lawrence was also named USCAA Player of the Week in the 2021-22 season. This year, he amassed 12 double-doubles and picked up where he left off last season as he ranks first in offensive rebounds (126) and fourth in total rebounds with 288. He is also fifth in rebounds per game at 10.3 rpg and is the only player on the Eagles roster that averages a double-double on the season. Lawrence is third in blocks with 56 and shoots 49% from the floor while also ranking as the Eagles third leading scorer at 10 points per game.
Kameron Shockley received a USCAA D2 Player of the Week award in the 2021-22 season and earned USCAA Honorable Mention All American this year. He is second on the team with 207 boards while averaging 7.4 rebounds per game. He is also second on the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game while shooting 51% from the floor and 78% from the free throw line. He is ranked fourth in blocked shots with 41 and 9th in steals with 57. Shockley, as well as the other two All Americans surpassed the 1000 career point scoring mark this season.
In the skills competition, Braden Rostad sank 10 three-pointers in the first round of the three-point shooting contest. Rostad woke up the crowd by knocking down seven shots in a row, before he bowed out in the second round against an opponent who made 12 long range shots.
Meanwhile, Kameron Shockley made it to the finals in the dunk contest and finished third overall. His dunks were highlighted by a cradle dunk and also a one-handed baseline jam off a ball thrown off the glass by his brother Kyle.
