Student research projects were showcased during the Student Research Colloquium held on April 11 at Kent State University at Tuscarawas.
Every fall semester, Kent State Tuscarawas students are given the opportunity to submit a research proposal to the Student Affairs Committee which reviews and funds the proposals. Once selected, students work with a faculty mentor on rigorous and meaningful undergraduate research.
This year’s colloquium showcased the research of seven students with three projects. Four faculty mentors partnered with the students on their projects, including: Dr. Dhruba Panthi, assistant professor of engineering technology; Dr. Donald Gerbig, associate professor of biological sciences; Dr. Kurt Eisermann, assistant professor of biological sciences; and Amanda Hayes, associate professor of English.
The 2021-2022 Student Research Colloquium Projects include the following:
Title: “Robotic Material Handler”
Presenters: Jacub Bolden, Justin Crowl, Christopher Gray, Troy Lindsay and Kyle Nitz
Mentor: Dhruba Panthi
Title: “Exploring the Degradation Effect of Ultraviolet Light on Bovine Collagen”

The purposes of the Student Research Colloquium are to introduce students to the skills and methodologies of theoretical, applied, and/or basic research, to provide students with the opportunity to expand their academic involvement and experience beyond the classroom, and to strengthen collaboration among faculty and students by providing resources for research projects of mutual interest.
