Salem, Ohio – Kent State University at Salem hosted a gathering of students and industry experts for a horticulture/entrepreneurship seminar named “What Makes Us Grow.”

The discussions included insight into hiring practices, resume writing, seasonal trends, starting a business and the skills and education needed to succeed.

Panel participants included Emily Showalter, director of human resources at Willoway Nurseries in Avon; George Hohman, president of Turfscape Inc. in Cleveland and Akron; Seth DeHoff, owner of DeHoff’s FGL in Alliance; Chris Carlson, associate professor at Kent Salem; and Richard Lutsch, of Byler, Wolfe, Lutesch & Kampfer CPAs in Salem.

The audience also included members of Kent State Salem’s horticulture advisory board, who offered the students additional insight into the industry, as well as the campus’s horticulture faculty members.
