Kent State Salem Receives Rotary Donation
Salem – Kent State University at Salem recently received a check for $1,500 from the Salem Rotary Club, earmarked to help the campus’s Discovery Garden grow.
The Discovery Garden is an outdoor classroom where individuals can “learn, grow, live and laugh.” Students in the horticulture program at Kent Salem use the garden space to put their lessons to work by planting and growing plants; designing and building landscape features; and harvesting the crops.
The food grown in the garden is donated to the Salem Food Pantry or used as part of the meal when Kent State Salem hosts the Banquet in Salem twice each year.
“The donation from the Salem Rotary Club will help us expand the garden and enhance the learning opportunities for our students and the public,” noted Dr. Steve Nameth, dean of the Kent Salem campus. “We appreciate the Rotary’s support of the Discovery Garden, especially since it benefits so many in our community.”
