ALEKS Math & ACCUPLACER Testing

Students must be admitted in order to take Kent State University placement tests.

ALEKS MATH PLACEMENT

Most new students to Kent State University will be required to take the ALEKS placement test for mathematics. ALEKS is a powerful artificial intelligence-based (AI) assessment software product that zeroes in on the student's mathematical strengths and weaknesses, reports its findings, and then, if necessary, provides a learning module to improve the student's knowledge and skill.

Placement test results are used by academic advisors to determine proper course placement.

ALEKS MATH REASSESSMENT

Students have the opportunity to improve their mathematics placement score by taking an ALEKS reassessment.  Prior to reassessment, students are required to work in their ALEKS learning modules.  The learning modules allow you to practice your math skills at your own pace as you advance through different topics within your assessment pie chart.  Students are encouraged to achieve 80% mastery of their pie chart in order to have an excellent chance of improving their placement score on a reassessment.

ALEKS reassessment must be taken in person in the Testing Center.

ACCUPLACER READING & WRITING

New students who have current ACT scores will be placed in reading and writing courses according to ACT reading and English subscores. New students without ACT scores will be placed in reading and writing courses based on high school GPA. In some cases, ACCUPLACER reading and writing placement assessments may be required. Placement test results are used by academic advisors to determine proper course placement.

All ACCUPLACER assessments are done in person by appointment only.
