You don’t have to be an information technology (IT) expert to know a lot about it. However, the more you know, and the more your interests align with the knowledge of computers, problem-solving, management and awareness of trends, security issues and maybe a little programming, the more you may be suited for a career in information technology.

ABOUT THIS MAJOR

The information technology program covers a wide range of fundamental skills and knowledge to give students a solid foundation for a number of careers. Students learn about programming, operating systems, hardware security and website development. This program offers different concentrations that let students choose a specialized aspect of IT. The associate’s degree in information technology enables graduates to take on important support roles such as helpdesk associate, user support specialist, computer programmer or web developer. Graduates with a  bachelor’s degree in IT can find success in managerial and higher admin roles including those such as database manager, computer operations manager, e-commerce network administrator, network administrator and others.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO

Students who graduate from this program to become IT professionals have skills that apply to a great number of careers and put them in high demand. In general, IT graduates have skills that help support computing and infrastructure needs to help companies and their employees work more effectively and efficiently in all computer-based aspects of their operations.
