Topic explores how to stay healthy in a toxic world
The first 2013 Lunch and Learn presentation, titled “Environmental Exposures Impacting Life Balance,” will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Nixson Hall Food Lab. Patrick Ginley, who retired from the United States Air Force Reserves in 2008 after serving honorably with the 910th Medical Squadron for more than 18 years, is the presenter.
Environmental exposures occur at home, work or play and can trigger inflammations that may manifest as arthritis, autoimmune reactions or even cancer. Toxins are present in the air, food and water, but you don't have to be a victim. Learn about these environmental factors and find out how to protect yourself and your family.
Ginley previously worked at the Cleveland Clinic as a physician assistant serving in various clinical, surgical and administrative roles in the more than 38 years he spent employed there. In addition to his work as a physician assistant, he became a registered nurse in 1980. He was named Nurse of the Year for the Cleveland Clinic Health System in 2007, and was also named Nurse of Note in 2008. He enjoyed a wonderful, fulfilling career at the Cleveland Clinic and retired in May 2011.
The Lunch and Learn programs are sponsored by the Division of Human Resources and are held in conjunction with Impact, the university’s employee assistance program. The hour-long programs are free and open to faculty and staff. However, seating is limited and reservations are required. Employees will have the opportunity to purchase pre-packaged healthy lunches to enjoy during the presentation. This information is available on the registration form. Register here.
