Increasing Student Survey of Instruction Completion Rates

Students taking courses at Kent State University campuses and the Regional Academic Center in Twinsburg are encouraged to complete a Student Survey of Instruction at the end of every online or in-class course.

Students taking courses at Kent State University campuses and the Regional Academic Center in Twinsburg are encouraged to complete a Student Survey of Instruction at the end of every online or in-class course.  Approximately 34–36 percent of these survey forms are submitted by undergraduate and graduate students at the end of a semester. The goal is to increase the completion rate to 50 percent.

A committee of faculty and staff has been working to increase Student Survey of Instruction form completion rates.  A variety of ideas have been discussed. In addition to the current email notifications that remind students to complete the surveys, several additional marketing tactics will be implemented to support this effort.

A pilot will be implemented this semester. The marketing message is:  “Express Yourself.  Fill us in on what you think. Complete your course surveys by Dec. 9.”

The initial marketing tactics consist of Web tiles to engage students online. Also, campus monitors and a print ad will support the awareness effort.
