Kent State Fashion/Tech Hackathon Set for Jan. 27-29

Technology merges with fashion at 2017 hackathon

The 2017 Fashion/Tech Hackathon, hosted by the Fashion School at Kent State University, will take place Jan. 27-29. Now in its fourth year, the hackathon is a cross-curricular event allowing teams of student participants to create and innovate within the realm of wearable technology. It is presented in partnership with the Fashion School’s TechStyleLAB and the university’s LaunchNET entrepreneurial initiative.

Last year, the event attracted 158 attendees representing 17 total institutions. Many were first-time hackers. The students completed 34 projects to submit for judging. Award categories included Best Creation of a New Technology, Best Advancement of an Existing Technology, Best Use of Technology to Create New Fashion Products and Best Tech Advancement of the Retail Experience. See last year’s student projects.

This year’s hackathon takes place on the university’s Kent Campus at Rockwell Hall, located at 515 Hilltop Drive, and the adjacent Center for Architecture and Environmental Design, located at 132 S. Lincoln St. The event is free for participants (undergraduate and graduate students). Event sponsors will provide meals and “swag” for participants.

The public is invited to the free project expo and awards ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. on Jan. 29. See the complete schedule of events.
