WKSU Presents Author David Sedaris in Akron on Oct. 16

WKSU presents author, humorist, diarist and public radio favorite David Sedaris at the Akron Civic Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are now available for $25, $35 and $45 through the Akron Civic Theatre Box Office and Ticketmaster. The Civic Theatre Box Office is located across the street from the theatre on the first floor of the Ohio Building. Tickets may be purchased in person or by calling 330-253-2488. Find more information at www.wksu.org or www.AkronCivic.com.

This will be Sedaris’ first Akron engagement since 2010. During the event, Sedaris is expected to read a variety of stories from his eight books, numerous anthology contributions and other pieces that may or may not have been previously published. He will sign books following the mainstage appearance.

With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, Sedaris has become one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today.

Sedaris, who briefly attended Kent State University in the late 1970s, was discovered by public radio icon Ira Glass and made his NPR debut reading from his now legendary SantaLand Diaries in 1992. Sedaris’ voice became a regular public radio fixture, from additional NPR segments and later his contributions to Glass’ popular program, “This American Life.”

Beginning with Barrel Fever in 1994, Sedaris began publishing a string of bestselling books, including the seasonally themed Holidays on Ice, as well as collections of personal essays, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, When You Are Engulfed in Flames, and his most recent book, Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls. He is the author of the New York Times-bestselling collection of fables, titled Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary (with illustrations by Ian Falconer). Sedaris’ pieces appear regularly in The New Yorker and have twice been included in The Best American Essays

The audio version of Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls earned him his third Grammy Award nomination for Best Spoken Word Album. There are a total of 10 million copies of his books in print, and they have been translated into 25 languages. Sedaris’ next book will be a collection of his diaries, titled Theft By Finding (coming summer 2017).
