Katie Masko, Public Relations
Internship: Public Relations/Communications Intern at Destination Cleveland
My classes and professors taught me everything I needed to be successful as an intern.
Public Relations major Katie Masko, ’24, spent summer 2023 as an intern with Destination Cleveland. There, she’s worked on a variety of projects, like writing press releases, media monitoring and collecting information about local and travel journalists.
She feels prepared, thanks to a combination of public relations coursework and her involvement in the Kent State Chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA Kent).
"Every skill from writing to media relations to meeting deadlines came from my academics," Katie says. "PRSSA prepared me by teaching me networking and professional development skills to interact and build relationships with coworkers and other professionals in the field."
Katie says this experience has taught her to soak in everything she can: "There is only so much time to soak in all the new things as a young professional going into the corporate world, and a great way to “test-run” different industries is through internships."
