ASHTABULA, Ohio (May 1, 2019) — Kent State University at Ashtabula Dean and Chief Administrative Officer Susan J. Stocker, Ph.D., received the Gingy Harshey-Meade Excellence in Leadership Award Friday, April 26, 2019, from the Ohio Nurses Association at the 2019 Nurses Choice Luncheon in Columbus.
The award is presented in recognition of sustained exemplary leadership and commitment to the nursing profession, as well as participation in and contributions to the purposes of the Ohio Nurses Association. The award is named for Gingy Harshey-Meade, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ohio Nurses Association and the Ohio Nurses Foundation, who presented the award.
“It is always nice to be recognized and this was a wonderful surprise,” said Stocker. “I was the president of the Ohio Nurses Association when the Ohio Nurses Foundation was created and when Gingy Harshey-Meade was hired, so this has special meaning to receive the award that's named for her.”
Another local nursing educator was also honored at the event. Amitabh Goel, M.D., from University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center, was awarded the Nurses Choice Award. Goel was lauded for his commitment to teaching nursing and other health care students through live televised surgical experiences. He has been a regular collaborator with the Ashtabula campus nursing program since 2013.
