Flash Medical Center, a one-day hands-on experience for high school students interested in a healthcare-related field, returns to Kent State University at Ashtabula for the third year on Friday, October 11, 2019.
In each of the past two years, over 20 students from Ashtabula and Lake Counties participated in the selective event, which transformed Robert S. Morrison Hall into a “hospital” and simulated a “day in the life” of health care workers in the areas of nursing, radiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy and respiratory care. Activities involved a simulated injury, patient transfers, use of X-ray machinery and patient recovery and therapy.
Flash Medical Center is designed to provide a “crash course” for students interested in pursuing education and a career in healthcare related fields.
“The Flash Medical Center experience is to provide an interactive, hands-on approach to students interested in the medical field and showcase the allied health departments,” said Nursing Skills Lab Coordinator Rhonda DiPofi, MSN, RN. “Students will actively participate in the care of a patient to understand the dynamics of the team approach in patient care.”
Additionally, students who attend will have the opportunity to apply for an exclusive scholarship.
