Taking a look at clinical setting experiences for respiratory therapy students, Kent State University at Ashtabula seniors Katlynn Brown and Maria Miller, second-year students in the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy program, presented last month at the Kent State Undergraduate Symposium on Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors on the Kent Campus.
Brown and Miller presented a poster at the event on their research topic, “Factors Influencing Perceived Effectiveness of Teaching, Supervising, and Evaluating Respiratory Therapy Students in the Clinical Setting.”
Their faculty mentor for the project was associate lecturer Megan Alicea, M.E.T., RRT.
The students’ research was a qualitative study exploring clinical instructor experiences for influential factors through an open-ended questionnaire. Their goal was to find a comprehensive answer to how clinical instructors perceive teaching, supervising and evaluating students in clinical settings and what forces influence the perceived ability to do so.
